I like the points this article makes about lack of cargo inspections on plane flights Note, I mean commercial cargo traveling on passenger airflights.
However, I do mind having to give up my liquids etc. I know that I'll have to fly in November if I attend the conference I'm planning to. I can only hope that these ridiculous cautions are gone by then since this will mean that I can't back an ice chest with ice packs of any kind to take on the plane for food --- and while you may say that I can survive plane flight w/out food, it is very convenient for me to have a meal on hand the night I check in at a motel to eat than having to hunt for something safe to eat (food allergies). Additionally, when I go home to Oklahoma for the holidays, it's nearly impossible for me to get a direct flight which means I'm on planes or in airports for upward of 6 hours. Most airports don't have any food I can eat. Yes, i can survive on nuts and fruit, but under the current guidelines, I'm not even sure they'll let me bring my own of those.
Basically, this is going to boil down to me flying ALOT less if I can avoid it at all. Which means I won't' be taking any willy nilly vacations anywhere which will affect the economy. This is going to land us back into a recession again (assuming you don't ignore the fact that they fix the way they calculate the numbers. If they calculated them the same way they did 10 years ago, we'd have been in a recession for the last five).
I just want my water bottle and little minicooler and my eye glass case. I'd like my mp3 player and a book, but I won't be picky here.

Date: 2006-08-14 04:39 am (UTC)I can't wait to travel to Missouri with my kid now. Sure as hell won't enjoy the crying when he's told he can't have anything to drink for over 3 hours (because I have absolutely no money, I am not paying for the trip and while I can use the foodstamps to buy carry-on drinks, I doubt the airlines take them).
Hopefully these rules will change before we have to go. If not...oh boy those passengers and crew are gonna LOVE my kid--lungs bigger, and a voice louder than even mine. And I won't feel one lick of sympathy for any of them, nor will I let the guilt bother me.
