A/N: Written for the brilliant [personal profile] lithiumdoll for my own little promptathon. Of course, she didn't give me a prompt, but I still believe she planted the bunny in my brain. This can stand alone, but draws upon a previous story: Saving Greta
word count: 1500+ words so far. The bunny feels like more though, so we'll see if this develops off of a one-shot scene or not.

Summary: Everyone else had family at Stanford's convocation. Sam never expected anyone to show up for him.
author notes: This is for [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster. I've pretty much failed at ever following through on sweet charity for her (the frog goes on vacation with Kink when she gives me prompts for some reason). So this my offering to make up for it. a WIP most likely and I'm pretty much at the mercy of Sam right now...If he remains as chatty as he is right now, it shouldn't take long. Anyway, babe, I hope you like it. Unbeta-ed for the moment.

Okay, so [livejournal.com profile] deathisyourart wants to see this at least. Not sure what other interest there may be since I know a ton of people are WIP-phobes, and I make no guarantees about ever really going back to finished this. Basically this is about 8500 words that I started writing S2 hiatus. [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster encouraged me like crazy and gave me some feedback (if I'm not mistaken). Also, [livejournal.com profile] cassiee I believe. Eventually it got Kripked enough that I'd have to fix a ton of things that I shelved it and never really got back to.....Now, I'm not sure if I will or not. Anyway, hope someone enjoys it.

Author: [livejournal.com profile] jebbypal
fandom: Supernatural
rating: Everyone
Characters: Dean, Sam, OCs
Summary: Dean finally decides John isn't coming back.
A/N: For [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster. She asked for a story written in the middle of Left Behind; the moment that Dean became convinced (consciously or unconsciously) that John was never coming back. This is probably more than she had in mind, but we all know Winchesters' won't shut up until their story is told. Unbeta'ed (at least for now).

Word count: 2270

When I got home, I was tired of staring at a computer screen, so I stared at the TV instead. A little bit of Old Christine, some being horrified about the blatant sexism, agism, and omg obsession with marriage of Age or Love *gaaaah ---- a tad less objectifying than Pussycat Dolls, but only barely*, some Hell's Kitchen to clean the palate, followed by the wonderful PBS series on great art masters (Rembrandt --- it got a bit dry when they went into his later years after his hey day and the death of his wife though).

Somewhere in there, a lid popped off a barrel and the bunny for [livejournal.com profile] spn_50states came barreling out. Including a character. That actually fit nicely into the legend I wanted, though I haven't exactly figured ouot how to fit the legend, the bit of "odd" history lore, and the case together yet, but we'll see what Sam and Dean have to say when they show up.

But you know what's really weird? Writing about a place I've been to instead of something I've seen on TV. And writing about an event I've experienced (okay, not all of it. there's no amount of money in the world that would get me to work in an outdoor food stall in OK heat. And my mother would never have made me do it because I would have made her life a living hell. Plus, she had enough trouble to get me interested in cooking at all without ruining my interest with horrible manual labor like that. But I watched her suffer through it! So research!).

My verb tenses are all over the place. I know if I let [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster even look at this draft, I'll have huge notes about SETTING! DETAIL! I CAN'T SEE IT!

And yet, two pages. that I didn't force. *knocks on wood*

Good, frog. Good. More of this, but without the eating of my brain till the diss is done. If you can do that, there's a bunch of whatever favorite bug you want. Just name it.

I have no clue if I can actually make the Aug 1 deadline. And I cant' say I'm going to kill myself trying. Right now, I just hope the other two writers for the state aren't doing the same myth or town. *prays* It's a big state, but not many people. (worse, I hope the two writers aren't anyone I've actually met in RL).

So, first there was Sparky, We're In Kansas, without which, this will make NOOOO SENSE.

And then my frog muse went travelling or hibernation or something. However, the snark of Folsom Prison Blues woke him up or gave me a small visit and I got this. And I know a few of you could use a laugh, so I'm posting it even though it's SHORT, UNBETA-ED, and absolute crack.

Enjoy.
