Okay, I know I have some flashpoint friends on here. I wanted to let you all know that ArwenLune has started writing fic for flashpoint

Meddling is such a negative word

It's Greg-centric, it's a happy fic, that josses things (she's only seen midway through season 2 thus far), but true to ArwenLune, it's also developing complex layers. Currently it's a WIP, but she has A LOT written on it already so I don't think there's much worry about it not finishing.

And really, it's ArwenLune!! Of fabulous Generation Kill/SGA crossover Rock Happy.

What more needs to be said?? Go, read, comment, and pimp!!!

There simply can never be enough good Flashpoint fic!!

FIC!!

First, a rec, via poisontaster's amazing taste :) Maggie Fitzgerald and the Saltwater Drip by antistar_e.

Truly, one of the best reboots I've read (or for that matter, seen on tv/movie) of a superhero franchise. Gwen Stacy is bitten instead of Peter Parker, and her Spiderman comes off as a truly unique take on superheroes, IMO. Also, an amazing critique of gender and race relations.

Second, omg, I can't believe no Continuum till next year. My brain is truly and well hooked on it. I think I even got bit by a plot bunny though i'm not sure how good it is. But since it's the second thing I've written all year, I'm not really complaining. We'll see if I can make it into something that is actually understandable to anyone besides me.

Somehow I can't find my Casey and Walsh icon on DW. I need to look into that.

Anyway, for that small portion of fandom that either already knew of Unusuals, or followed me into it, I have a post-series rec for you that will make your day.

the unusual suspects by celesteavonne

Long (oh so nicely long) plotty fic with all canon relationships. It's the second being the second in all their fucked up glory and a not too shabby ending. :) Read, it, trust me.

My touch that is!

Paburke took my christmas prompt and turned it into an awesome fic. That then spawned additions to the Learning to Fly universe!! :):):) There's nothing like a plot bunny reproducing, except when that plot bunny results in crossover expansion!!

In somewhat less awesome news, my iphone4s has developed an extremely annoying glitch. The entire centerline of the phone has become touch insensitive. Which is annoying for texting as I have to go to landscape to type the text, and then switch back to normal up and down mode to hit send. But it's made the phone almost inoperable since the dialer and menus for the phone don't change orientation! so it's nearly impossible to actually open "contacts" and dialing a number is difficult when 2,5,8,0 won't register.

ATT was less than helpful after finding that i don't qualify for early upgrade till May. I can "trade" the phone in and buy a new one for full price though with basically a 210 discount. Or, I can hope the weather will stop being a pain in the ass and drive 30-40 miles to the nearest apple store to see if they'll just "give" me a new one. I need to go online and see what the protection plan or not that I pay for is, but I'm pretty sure I stopped the "full insurance" since you basically end up paying the expense of the phone twice if nothing goes wrong.

So if I do trade in, I need to decide if I'll stick with the 4s or go to the 5. I'll probably have to see if I'll still qualify for an uprgrade any time this year. If I will, then I'll stick w/ the 4s. If not, I might as well go for the 5 since I'll be stuck with it for 2 more years.

Grrr. Apple and their constant new tech sucks sometimes.

Of my close girlfriends from high school and college, I'm the last one still single. Good friend called me last night to tell me she'd just gotten engaged. Not that I'm upset about it - just amused more than anything.

Other weird happenings - Woke up this morning and was not hung over. Felt entirely fine. Called to order breakfast at 5:30, and was told room service wasn't taking orders yet (then why does the menu say its available at 5:30???). While waiting for them to call back, could feel migraine starting. Additional aleve, breakfast, and 3 cups of coffee definitely have the pain backing off, but I'm still feeling pretty light sensitive. Oh well, if it had to happen any day, this is the best one given that we don't have a lot of coverage. (also, I'm not as miserable with migraines as most - just generally grouchy, more crowd avoidy than usual, and potential for nauseau w/ the pain)

Also, for my fellow crossover lovers - another rec for you:
The Home Verse by faithburke. Awesome Joan of Arcadia/Supernatural crossover. If you don't happen to be a fan of one, it's pretty well done so you won't be missing anything. \0/

All these awesome crossovers definitely have my frog up and hopping. Of course, that's probably also a side effect of being at a science conference (anytime science looks to be too all consuming the frog tries to get me to procrastinate....Of course, now that my job is officially to be here, it's less likely to be something that I can give in to.

On the less fun news, it sounds like my dad's mother is in the last stages of Alzheimer's. Read more... )

Every once in a while you run across one of those truly epic crossovers that is just so perfect, you wish and plead and hope that the universe will take off so you can read more and more and more.

[livejournal.com profile] aurilly has done just that.

Home is where the weird is is Lost/True Blood crossover. All I can say is Richard and Eric in the same room. Do you really need more of an excuse to go read it???????

This is a wonderful look at Madeline through the years, and her evolving relationship with Michael. Absolutely gripping, and wonderfully written. Go, read, feedback!

Five Ways Burn Notice and Highlander Never Crossed, and One Way They Did by Gryphonrhi

Gryphonrhi has a wonderful grasp of the characters both in Highlander and in Burn Notice which completely makes this one of the best Burn Notice fics out there. In case yor Highlander is as fuzzy as mine, not to worry, at the end of the story, Gryphonrhi gives you a reminder of who each character is.

If you haven't been following along as the epic developed, you should run, not walk, here and read [personal profile] lithiumdoll's wonderful, and wonderfully long, coda to the end of T:SCC. The fic actually becomes season 3 all on its own...or a new movie, whichever you prefer. Wraps up all the plot points, and leaves you wondering what a season 4 (or sequel, though don't ask for that now, or Lithy will kill us all...or create killer robots to do that for her) would bring.

Stories like these, would be the exact reason I let DIYA manipulate me into running SCC reloaded fic challenge. And fics like these really really reward people who let themselves be convinced into the hassle and guilt of running fic exchanges.

In other news, Yay for Starbucks being open on Thanksgiving because I totally forgot to buy more coffee all week!!! Also, I have no idea how I got a semi-blister on my finger that just tore off which will be inconvenient to my plans for much cleaning today that would require gloves. Sigh.

But first, cooking. Roast or Turkey first...probably roast. Methinks I might try the cold brining on the turkey, except that might not be a good idea with chunk of dermis now exposed on my finger either.

Seriously, go read that fic!

Whose craving some gen SPN fic? If you are, you should check out [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat's SPN fic here.

Some of these stories are crossovers with Buffy, but recently she's starting writing SPN only serials. All are excellent, as much of her fic is, and I highly recommend you check them out.

Seriously, go read that story. if you don't know one of the fandoms, don't worry over much - it will succeed in introducing you well enough (and maybe convince you to join). I'm over the moon with this story.

Well, I've only started reading the [profile] washathon entries, but have immediately run across a gem (lucky for you).

Pre-series, but a great look at Wash saving the day and fitting into Mal and Zoe's world. Great writing, good voices, and good fun. Go, read and comment.

This is the perfect melding of FF and SPN that I have seen. Near as perfect a crossover as can ever be made. I can't recommend it highly enough.

So I've procrastinated on what is to be my DAY OUTSIDE DOING THINGS by making my fic list and then indulging in a bit of reading. Of course, this leads to recs.

I have the Touch by [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster.

Pt is so one of my writing heroes. I always forget how much I love her writing till I go and peruse it again. The amount that I miss having her write in firefly is hard to describe. It's almost akin to how much I miss seeing it on TV programming.

In this fic, PT writes of River. It's a touching story of what River is missing now, and what River used to be. If you missed it the first time around, or even if you didn't, you should go and catch it now. Maybe with some feedback, PT will do a rewatch of Firefly and give us some more fic. Or at the very least, more SPN/FF story.....
