summary Of all the cops in the world, Sam Winchester thinks that Charlie Crews would be the one to understand his brother.
author notes Written for my own promptathon for theonlytwin.
The cop squats to examine the neat pile of ash more closely. Sam and Dean exchange looks of disbelief when the man reaches down and then tastes the remains.
“So vampires are real?”
“Yeah, we went through the same disbelief a few years ago. Which is a lot more ironic on our side of things. Now, if you don’t mind?” Dean asks, while motioning with his cuffed hands.
“You’re wanted in connection with several homicides. My partner –“
Sam shakes his head. “Don’t worry, she won’t vamp out on you. There’s nothing to indicate that the vamp was interested in turning her. As to the homicides, I’d think that Charlie Crews of all people would be more understanding about cases of mistaken identity.”
“So every person your brother is accused of killing was actually murdered by a vampire that looks exactly like him and has the same fingerprints?”
“Sam!”
“Shut up, Dean, and don’t do anything stupid. And no, Detective. But if vampires are real, just imagine what else might be out there. I give you my word that my brother, the person standing in front of you, did not kill anyone.”
“Evil twin?” the woman on the ground slurs.
“Reese.” In an instant, Crews was at her side. That was all the distraction that Dean needed to take off sprinting for the exit of the abandoned warehouse.
For a second, Crews looked as if he was going to take off after Dean. But then he looked a second time at his partner’s pale, drained face, and he settled in on the ground beside her. “When you get cell reception, I’d appreciate it if you’d call an ambulance to this location. Officer down.”
Sam nods. “Sure. Anything to help.”
“Winchester – are there more of these things in the city?” Crews asks.
“I don’t think so. They hunt either in packs or alone. There’s no evidence of more in this den.”
“If there are?”
“Decapitation, or fire are the only ways. Ignore everything you learned in the movies. Oh, and blood from dead people is a poison.”
“And the other things you mentioned?”
Sam pulled out a card that had the number to Bobby’s general information and help phone. “If you run into anything out of this world, call this number. Someone will come. If you value your life or that of anyone else, don’t try to take it on alone.”
Crews nodded and pulled his shaking partner closer. “Fair enough.”
Walking out of the warehouse, Sam pulled out his phone to dial the ambulance. He also sent his email account a note to look up Charlie Crews’ personal information in the near future. He has a feeling that if anyone could provide information about how to help his brother come to terms with his stint in hell, Crews might.
