The Net-flix altar

Okay, so everyone knows I succumbed to teh evol right? ;) LOL. So I figured I'd at least give my impressions of the shows you are most likely already uber-familiar with, though I know there are a few out there that are as out of the loop as I am (winks at
mona1347). And I caution you, I'm not great at doing reviews after only watching an episode once --- and I tend to not keep the discs long enough to watch them twice because OMG, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!! ;) But yeah, figured I'd post something other than my boring ass life and fanfic for you guys.
Now, shoo.
WTF?? You are kidding me right? 5 episodes = 1 season?? *bangs head* Auugh.
Okay, so disc 1 with the pilot and the first episode, I wasn't too impressed with. Several of the actor and actresses could have been better, some things dragged a bit, just wasn't the greatest thing ever. Interesting premise, so-so delivery. Of course, Peter Coyote and Joel Gretsch's performances were good enough that i didn't mind coming back to it for the next set of episodes...
And wow! It took off after that. The overall conspiracy of the media etc added a little bit more to it. It still feels a tad x-files-ishy though I'm glad they stopped having Baldwin's partner channel Scully.
I still can't believe they left us w/ such a painful cliffhanger. I hope season 2 gives us more episodes than this though. This is just painful!
Okay, say what you will about Julian Mcmahon's acting ability -- but he is pretty to look at and plays assholes incredibly well. Add the director and a great script in, and he can even be a convincingly sympathetic anti-hero. This show has me hooked from the first episode. I'm still debating if i'm going to mainline all the discs in order or rotate in another show or not. Everything about this show is about the angst, which everyone here knows I feed off of. Blessedly, little of the angst comes from "omg, how fucking stupid embarrassing" is that, which is just painful for me to watch.
Honestly, I squee over this. It's good, very very good. I mean, honestly, I can see that this is what the Desperate Housewives sorta tries to attempt to be, but it's next to impossible to do on network tv. Try the first disc and then fight me to rent the rest:) LOL.
I went into this wanting to love it. After watching it, all I loved was seeing Jeremy Piven play a complete Jack-ass. Which might be enough to get me to rent the second season, but I'm not in a hurry about it. The entire show is pretty much what you would think it is -- almost documentary style of the new male star in town which roughly translates into Hollywood Animal House. And yeah, almost everything in it is very painful for me to watch because it is all embarrassing in some way. From the new star going on Jimmy Kimmel after refusing to do the pre-interview (made his best friend/assistant do it) and then not pimping his movie on it to the continued escapades of the men desperate to sleep with the women and going after pot, yeah, just not quite my thing.
The writing was very intelligent though, all the actors nailed their parts perfectly, and the directing was spot on. It just wasn't, "must see tv" for me. Too much like reality TV with not quite enough Jeremy Piven to make up for it.

Date: 2005-07-31 09:55 am (UTC)Nip/Tuck is FABULOUS, and the second season is even better than the first. So many shocks and twists and delicious evil. Gah! I can't wait for the second season to be out on DVD.
Haven't watched Entourage. Not sure how interested I am, given the bloaty size of my Netflix queue already.

Date: 2005-07-31 12:57 pm (UTC)I HAVE however seen 4400. :) It gave great cliffhanger at the end but I'm sad to say that S2 just didn't hold my interest the same way. Try it out eventually but, IMO - eh.
Except for the 1st ep of season 2 which featured Summer Glau as, you guessed it, a crazy person! :) Think 4400 River and you've pretty much got her character. She's such a great actress that I hope she doesn't get type-cast but...whatever. She was awesome.)
(In addition, I'm just too late to go to Lenscrafters but I'm going to Best Buy (on my way to the grocery store) and seeing if they have the Farscape starburst DVDs. :-D

I see that all my talk of the leather made you too impatient? LOL!!!
so how'd you get to see 4400 S2 already? It looks as if netflix doesn't have it yet. *pouts*
Yeah, I think summer will have better luck as she gets older and such. It's really hard to find good roles at her age since her resume isn't huge yet, you know. But fortunately she still has that whole 20-35 yr old playing an teenager ahead of her, so I'm sure she'll do fine:P

And was I ever right to go buy it (got Parts 2 & 3 of S1 and part 1 of S2). 'Cause in Vitas Mortis....with the leather. And the shiny metal buckles on the jacket and with the...and he's all...and the jacket that kind of floats behind him just a bit, in a leather way and he's so....*iz ded from drool*
OK Ben officially makes the top 5. He may have to tie with someone but by all that is holy he makes it.
Pokes you
Date: 2005-08-01 06:13 am (UTC)You forgot to log in for your last comment dear;):)
And well now, that frees up some space on your netflix account:) You might make it through all of farscape before serenity comes out!! Though I guess boy is going to have a lot of catch up watching to do when he comes back.
Heeeee!

Shoulda known you'd have gotten that far---i remember doing the same thing myself sorta---except I ended up skipping the last 5 episodes of season 1 at the time cause I hadn't gotten my starburst edition for the last part of the season and I was JONESING for new farscape when my season 2 came. Fortunately there are excellent transcripts out there so I wasn't too lost.
*hugs her farscape*
Oooh, you are about to get to Crackers Don't Matter!! One of my FAVEEEEEEEEEEEEE EPISODES.
*squees and hurriedly turns off computer before I spoil you*
