Really, it eliminates so much of his whiny-ness. Not to say I don't like Sam, but he can drag the "woe is me" out like no one's business. So it was nice to see him totally react in the moment and be upset that the 20th century is screwing with his ability to his job instead of clinging to every "symptom" that this is indeed all a dream.

Turning all the normal devices on their head was nice too -- instead of seeing talking medical heads (or scary little girls) on the TV, he's seeing his mates going about their jobs. Ineptly, but still.

One of the best mysteries that the show has had in a while and I think it's made better by the fact that Sam knows as little about it as we do. The interviews with the entire squad are a nice touch. Annie's monologues are delivered in a way that their not boring (on a side note, it seemed like drugged up Sam kept calling her "honey", but I suppose he was just slurring her name).

Wow, the kid though -- great actor. He really pulled off "combative little twit" and "scared shitless" well.

Also hilarious is how the seriousness of a case is judged by how long it's been since we've all been to the pub. I mean, even during the IRA bombings that weren't IRA, we had time to go to the pub. But not on the kidnapping with a deadline. No sirree.
