Where the heck is last night's full episode on cwtv? What's the point of having them online if they're not there almost immediately after, huh?? *pouts*
So, hockey game last night...umm, underwhelming. And not just because the Devils and the Flyers aren't as good as past years (though the game was close amazingly - we went to overtime and the devils won w/ 30 sec left).
So, THEY TAKE BREAKS DURING THE COMMERCIALS?? WTF? There were at least three commercial breaks in every 20 minute period (and the the 15 minute breaks between periods). And that's not counting whistles for penalties. I begin to understand why every just wants to see fights! It can be the longest amount of uninterrupted action one sees the entire game.
I mean, it's one thing to see commericials when you're at home and stuff. But I just never realized that they stopped the game, I thought they kept on playing. Don't ask me why, I just did (then again, I've probably seen less than 25 games since i got into hockey after all the networks stopped wantin to air anything other than the playoffs. And damn few of those). Do they do this during basketball too?
It just removes so much of the endurance factor from the game. B said he didn't remember it happening during Phantoms game he saw way back when, so maybe we'll see about going to one of their games sometime to see if it's more enjoyable.
It was very...disconcerting to be watching a sporting event without the sounds of a commentator though. Really really wierd. Fortunately we had tickets in front of a couple of colorful season ticket holders so we got to hear all about the failings of every single player.
The five minute, uncommercial interrupted, overtime session was great though. The Flyers actually controlled the puck for most of it, despite their loss (Wish we'd had Esche healthy. Was not a good night for Nutt...I can't spell it, sorry. At least two of the goals were his own fault). The last shot on goal they made (and missed) was perfect set up of one of Forsberg's magic passes. Beautiful to see.
So a little disappointing, but now I can say I've been. For a playoff game or one that mattered, I imagine it's a bit more exciting than when your team is 12 - 32 and just playing their rivals. By the end though, I was very tired. Then we got stuffed onto the subway and the smell of everyone's cologne and beer laden breath really started to get to me (esp since I accidentally sat on the seat directly above the heater). Those started to try to set off a headache, so those two unpleasant events triggered my loathing of loud, bibble babble noises and I started to....well, a bad mood would put it mildly. I really wanted to start punching people and things (I haven't had one of my true "no sound moods" in a long long time. I almost forgot how nerve wracking they are). After about a half an hour (including 10 minutes just sitting stalled in one station for some reason) we finally made it to the broad street station where we would have changed over to the trolley line. But the signs were really crazy and indicated we should stand where we had stood to catch the south train down to the sports complexes. After fifteen minutes of waiting and not being sure if the train that showed up would be ours or not, I couldn't take the noise anymore and dragged B outside to grab a cab. The fresh air alone was worth it...and oddly, I wouldn't have minded just walking since there was no wind, despite the supposedly below freezing temps. But we got a cab pretty quick and thankfully it was one that didn't have fifteen thousand air fresheners. I was very relieved to get home to my quiet apartment and eat two pieces of banana bread before collapsing into my bed for the night. Very happy. Yes, I turn into the grinch if you keep me out too long without food.
sixersfan, the shirts will be mailed today!! Swear. I'm going to get ready and then zip over to the post office to mail your and mona's stuff. Then I'm going to come back to the apartment to badger the front desk about the TWO packages they've lost now. That's right. Two days ago, I got a note for a package and when I asked for it, they couldn't find it. It was written in the package book under my name and apartment, it hadn't been signed for, but the guy couldn't locate a UPS box in that bin. *bangs head* I've no clue what it is, since I don't think I was waiting on anything that I'd actually ordered. Siiigh. I'm getting VERY sick of this and am beginning to hate this incompetent security firm.
