Say good bye to TIVO if MPAA succeeds with "Analog Content Security Preservation Act of 2005"

The important exceprt:

An Analog Video Input Device shall not record or cause the recording of Copy
Prohibited Content in digital form except for retention for a period not to
exceed 90 minutes
from initial receipt of each unit of such content,
including retention and deletion on a frame-by-frame, minute-by-minute or
megabyte-by-megabyte basis
, using a Bound Recording Method, and provided
that such content shall be destroyed or otherwise rendered unusable prior to or
upon expiration of such period. (emphasis added.)

You read that right. 90 minutes ladies and gents. No more, no longer.

And what the hell is with cut and paste today. First word, and now semagic is keeping the formatting of a copied segment from Explorer?? Is there a way to disable this? It's driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!

I read that with my mouth open is shock. MPAA can't legislate how we watch images, can they?

I love Ars Technica ever since they ran a huge long review of Mac OS X in wonderful English. They made UNIX understandable for the lay man. Now, in plain English, they explain why this LAW is ugly and surreal attack on Fair Use. Sigh.
