Be prepared to defend yourself, and continue the search for inner peace." - I Ching
Sooo...it came five days late, but I finally got the email notification that I will be presenting a poster in October at the meeting in New York. Soo...um...yeah. This will actually be a very different experience for me. I've never actually presented anything at the level of a national/international meeting. Normally, I'm not really nervous about public speaking, but methinks I might get a tad before this thing. Fortunately, it's a pretty small conference. Also fortunately, it will actually be a really good way to make contacts because the people that come that will actually understand my work are pretty much the top of the field. Sadly, it will be mostly cancer clinicians and then scientists that work w/ mice I fear. I am not suffering through mice again! It's so nice to have energy at work rather than be battling an allergy attack all day, every day.
Umm...and I think I've discovered the secret to being girly. Or actually, not discovered, because it's the reason I've never done it. Finding cute shoes that are comfortable. And I have high standards for the comfort part. But I decided to glance through Zappos dress shoes while I was at work in case for whatever reason the boots I ordered don't fit or something. And omg, I think I've found like 8 or 9 pair that might qualify as possibilities for me. Some aren't even horribly expensive. So if the boots don't fit, then I'll order a couple of pairs of dress shoes in the hopes that one of them works (those that don't will get returned. The wonders of zappos.com -- you can return any thing, any time so long as you haven't worn it outside). I think I even found a cute pair of summer loafers that might encourage me to wear something other than jeans, khakis, and jean shorts in the summers!! :)
this could get expensive.
In other news, K, the tech that's been in our lab the longest (not vulgar V), stayed late for a bit and talked to me. She's a sweet girl, just pretty much the typical philly/jersey person that has grown up around here and never experienced anything else. She did crack me up though when she said she was surprised I didn't go to medical school because I seemed so knowledgable. I think I managed to keep the laughter off my face. Girl, just shows how naive you are if you think doctors are knowledgeable! Hell, right now she knows more science than the two MD fellows in the lab. *shakes head* It was funny, you just had to be there.
Now I'm off. I think I have some scene bunnies for TR trying to hatch.
