Okay, so this lj seek I posted, it worries me. I tried to use it today and it gave me an error where it said that I have indexing turned off on my preferences. So I was poking around trying to find out more about it on its webpage when I saw this:
You may check status of your journal - if it is known for our system, if it is being indexed, as well as which entries we have in our database. After checking status of your journal you will be able to enable or disable indexing.
And just now I figured I'd check the status and this is what I saw:
Database contains 248 posts. Oldest dated: 2005-04-07 08:44:53 Newest dated: 2005-07-28 05:25:45
Content was last spidered: 2005-07-28 10:16:42
Journal is set to be spidered
Notes:
First post may not match first post in your journal as there is only 25 lasts post available via RSS interface, so posts created long before we started indexing may be unavailable.
Post will be unavailable for full text search short while after it is retrieved, until we update our indexes.
Journals disabled for indexing are not removed from database, but entries are made unavailable for full text search.
Okay, this really freaks me out --- I think this may be related to that one archiving thingie that people were freaking out about. I'm taking the tool off my account and leaving indexing DISABLED. Somehow I'm worried that this search function may not exclude secured posts or something. I don't know for sure, but I'm not taking chances.
Okay, this is what there faq says regarding private posts:
Are private journal posts indexed ?
No private or friends only posts are not indexed as they are not available via RSS interface. However if post was public at some point in time and when was made private or friends only it may appear in search index.
Still, not sure how much I like this. thought you all would like the info.
