so, just had to restart computer cause stupid firewall update forced it....but it started normally!! No wierd grey bars, no blue screens of death....and I could start programs almost immediately instead of waiting for 5 minutes as sluggishness disappeared!!! *dances*

Go, go now and get this trojan scanner if you don't already have it. It's free and apparently picks up a lot of shit that spyware programs don't.

Though I'm sure the defrag helped a lot too. So glad I called you guys instead of just going ahead and reformatting my harddrive!!

ETA...and everyone on my flist should be super happy too since their help meant that I didn't lose all my WIP!!!

heheh Im glad you called too because damn. if you lost all those WIP I might have had to go and strange DELL for giving you a naughty computer.
Im just glad it worked. it soo sounded like malware and trojans, mine did the same thing and now I run that scanner everytime I start my computer..

it's amazing what a few tweaks here and there can do to an ailing system. i haven't formatted in 2 years!

LOL...well I didn't know it was ailing till I installed that incompatible program. I just didn't realize that neither symantec virusscan, firewall, or spybot search and destry didn't catch trojans!! Plus just being lazy about defragging my hard drive.

And I've never had to reformat my baby *hugs computer* Had it for two years w/ no problems. The one I had before that, I never had to reformat either --- but then, that was windows 98 and w/ a 56k modem too.

actually, if you like i can send you a list of all the useless crap that's running on your computer by default right now and slowing it down, so you can turn them off and have a clutter-free ficcing environment
