Umm, okay, if like me, the song that made you fall in love w/ James as a musician was Mad Brilliant, you might not want to go out of your way to pick this cd up. Honestly, most of the music on it is kinda like lite countryish w/ strains of a little bit of blues/40ish music in it. It's not horrible by any means, but the sounds on it over all get a little bit too repetitive and simple for my tastes. *shrugs* Still it's nice for a bit of a change.
Song rundown

1) Katie -- James does Sugar Ray impersonation is the best way I can describe this. Okay, but overly poppy and really kind of annoying to an extent if you aren't in the mood for it.
2) Bad -- A little bit better than Katie, but still a little vocally and musically boring to me.
3) This Town-- Ahh...pop music sounds gone. Very slow and just James's voice for the most part. Very pretty and a nice sound. Still, not something I think you could put on repeat w/out going a bit insane.
4) smile--One of my favorites off the cd -- actually reminds me a lot of, oh, I think I'm thinking of Lean On Me. Very clean piano sounds and nice vocals.
5) For What I need--Heavy blues influence here which is much preferable to the 1950s pop influences of the early songs on this disc. Not to mention James's voice sounds much better when it's all edgy.
6) Long Time--Movie song ballad. Euuugh, get rid of the pop crap please. Again, nothing technically wrong, but well, just doesn't really grab me.
7) Every Man Thinks God Is On His Side--Country influences strong here, I don't like it as much as For What I Need, but it's stilly much more tonally interesting and James actually hits multiple notes!
8) Poor Robyn--Basically James does his Sinatra-ish impression. Not bad at all and as you might have guessed, I like it more than the early songs:)
9) No Promises -- Most like the sound from Ghost of the Robot. Very nice, upbeat and good tempo.
10) Patricia -- country crossed w/ the ghost of the robot. Not bad at all.
11) Civilized Man -- Very Bluesish. James should definitely stick w/ the blues over pop rock!!

All in all, not horrible at all and not necessarily a step down from GoTR, but the entire cd is a little schizophrenic while still managing to sound very repetitive at first. Does that make sense? Anyway, maybe this will give ya some idea if you want to buy it.
