The guy that Bush has nominated for Surgeon General flabbergasts me.

The nominated Joseph Holsinger and his wife founded:
Hope Springs Community Church in a warehouse at 1109 Versailles Road. Calhoun called it a socially diverse congregation with a "very vital recovery ministry." It serves the homeless and those with addictions to drugs, alcohol and sex; and it has a Spanish-language Hispanic congregation with its own pastor. [...]

Hope Springs also ministers to people who no longer wish to be gay or lesbian, Calhoun said.

"We see that as an issue not of orientation but of lifestyle," he said. "We have people who seek to walk out of that lifestyle."

Well, at least Bush is staying consistent in his presidency as the Decisive Divider.

So, the new improved grad student (male) working with B, D, recently purchased Firefly all on his own based on something he'd read or something. Which amused B because if he'd said something, B would have loaned him his copy.

D came to lunch today w/ B and started talking about how much he enjoyed the first disc but how it wasn't really science fiction, but rather "a Western in space".

The funny part: He'd either never heard, or didn't recall, seeing any of Joss's (or anyone else's) description of Firefly using those exact words.

I wonder if he'd be amenable to Scaping. Of course, what he enjoys most about it seems to be how they always end up fighting.

The random insult generator website is blocked by the hospital's blocking software.

Hee. That just entertains me for some reason.

An excellent summary of all the possible culprits behind Bee Colony Collapse Disorder

After reading an article in last month's Science, I meant to do one of these summary posts myself. Alas, Devilstower beat me to it. But they probably did it 10x better than I would have.
