So, I was flipping through the pages of one of my last copies of Writer's Digest that I'll recieve (cause really, 3 useful issues out 12 isn't worth a subscription. I can flip through in the bookstore), and came across this contest that I thought would be exceedingly useful to any of you all that have completed novels, completed or worked on NaNo, or just have an exceedingly good idea floating in your head.

Get Published, Get Publicized contest

Basically, Rick Frishman and Robyn Freedman Spizman have written a book Author 101: Bestselling Book Proposals and one of the ways they are publicizing it is to have this contest. Go to the link I've put up there, complete the registration form and then submit a book proposal according to the requirement by April 15, 2006. Why you ask? Because:

Send in your book proposal and win a publishing contract from Adams Media -- and up to $20,000 worth of book publicity from Planned Televison Arts and The Spizman Agency!

I figure this would be extra useful for those of you who have already completed a book and have been tinkering w/ it before looking for agents or shopping it around to different companies. Go forth and publish. Bosslady says so.

Well hopefully, by tomorrow my internet will be fixed and I'll be off this slow ass 11mbs connection and back to my 54:P B finally remembered that he could give me his cable from his room after trying to tell me to go buy a cable last night when the box o' free cables in his building was empty. *rolls eyes* I can tear my apt apart and probably find my missing cable and would before I'd buy one. Still, would be nice if there was a wireless modem out there that didn't require a bridge connection to the dsl phone line. Siiigh.

But hopefully, after that, I'll be done w/ computer crises for a while.

And man, am I tired this morning. Dunno if it's an aftereffect of the stress from last night or philly or both. When I was at home, I'd wake up and feel awake (albeit grumpy and noncommunicative till I'd eaten. Soo not a morning person), but being back here, I wake up and just want to roll over and get more sleep. WEnt to bed by midnight, it was actually cool in the apartment, but at 8 am I was forcing myself to roll out of bed. Easily could have slept another hour. Ugggghhh.

Still need to call the building management to find out about this rent credit they are offering if we sign a form saying we don't planto buy. I want to ensure that it doesn't negate our ability to stay to the end of our lease before I do so. But three hundred bucks would be nice. I do have a certified letter I have to go to the post office to pick up eventually that may be an offer on my apartment anyways. *shakes head* I really don't like having to deal w/ this crap.

Well, I better get started getting ready for work. ten am already. Uggh. :P

ETA woohoo, two more days till winter comes back supposedly. Though it does look like I need to decide today whether my boots will work or not...they feel so tight. But it's supposed to pour today, and I know it's just waiting till I step outside. frakking karma.

The DVD style director's commentary meme that's going around. I've skipped it whenever it's come up in the past, but you know, typing might actually help me get in the mood to type more on other stuff.

So here's the deal, first five requests will get a commentary....though the timeperiod in which they are produced are not guaranteed;) Fics can be found in[livejournal.com profile] jebbypal's memories, at frogs_fics, Uncharted Realities (see sidebar) and Fireflyfans.net(link takes you directly to my stories). And yes, there are some that are some places and not elsewhere cause I'm lazy and unorganized. WIP and completed stories are both fair game.

what we'd all like to do to traffic cameras

Well, except when I'm a pedestrian. I wish philly would hurry up and get them so I wouldn't have to worry about being run over by people running red lights.

US receives exemption to continue using methyl bromide through 2008

This is widely used in farming to "sterilize" the soil of common fungicidal and bacterial pests. One thing the article doesn't mention, is that it does indeed sterilize the soil of even good bacteria. After treatment, an abandoned field treated with methyl bromide takes up to three years to recover the normal populations, remaining almost barren during that time and requiring that it be fertilized excessively for continued use (which creates the problems we see with excess fertilizer runoff and the damage that does to forests and the ocean). That's before one considers its neurotoxicity and affect on the ozone layer.

But wah, farmers don't want decreased yields even as they continue to glut the market with excesses.

You know, there's nothing like recieving feedback from someone who confesses to being a chronic lurker.

*feels happy*

Hopefully I've consumed enough farscape to satisfy the frog and convince him to cooperate. *crosses fingers*

I know several people on my flist are computer shopping recently. I was just at overstock and saw several for pretty good deals:

Dangit. So, those of you who finished nano or anything lengthy. Any advice for how to get through a story without getting to the point that the writing feels stale because you've seen the scenes in your head so many times?? I went ahead and forced myself to write it, but it's dren. Dren, I tell you.

Siiiiigh.

ETA...Oh wait, that's right. One thing to always check when the writing goes stale...is the muse trying to tell me that I'm doing the scene from the wrong damn POV?

It appears that in this case, the answer is yes. Still, hopefully John will decide to cooperate a bit more when it gets around to his turn here in a bit....otherwise, well, otherwise he'll really be frellin with the architecture of the story.

Soooo....when you give a person's weight in metric, is it in kilograms? The equivalent of gaining say thirty pounds...what would that be? yes, I know I could do the conversion, but I don't have my calculator...and I don't know if you would actually measure a person's weight in kilograms. Seems like that would be too mcuh. Some help please!
