RAIN!!!!! Also, Cape...
Feb. 2nd, 2011 10:22 amThis will be a bit varied here....
First off - I have never been so excited to see rain. I'm sorry to the rest of the country that got snow, but here in NJ, I think people will be partying in the streets for us to have rain all day! Here's hoping it takes some of the snow mounds with it so that pulling out of driveways into streets/highways stops being a game of chicken.
Second, between today and yesterday, I believe I'm finally giving in and abandoning mass-produced, readily available hair care products. First the Redken started making me itch all over a few months back. Switching to Shikai full time cleared that up, but the new batches smelled differently, and my scalp wasn't acting normal at all. During last order of lotion from the gluten-free savonnerie, I saw that they now offer shampoo and conditioner. I was hesitant since the previous castille soap I'd gotten from sungold soaps had proved to be too drying for regular use and completely destroyed my hair. However, they had travel bottles available, so I bought a sample. Two days - scalp feel sooo much more normal, and my hair doesn't seem to be too upset. the completely fragrance-free is a little odd, so I added some lemon oil to it and I have to say I'm very happy. Going to order full size bottles in the next couple of days, and will likely given their castille soap a try as well. That said, I'm going to still continue to try to use normally available fragrance-free detergents in the continued belief that a little desensitization goes a long way....especially given how much more sensitive I've grown to perfumes since migrating away from most normally available perfumed products of any sort. (and I still want to meet the person whose bright idea it was to scent the handles of women's razors).
Okay, fandom now :)
So, The Cape is all but canceled. Order reduced from 13 to 10, which means they only have to wrap the show currently in production. Fingers crossed that we actually get to see the Michael Irby episode 9 aired. But that's neither here nor there. On the one hand, I really like this show. For the most part it's well written, and it has interesting back story. But much like that other nbc-based super-hero show, Heroes, it has its problems, and sadly, not as strong as a season 1 plot to pull people in.
Major problem: I like any one of the supporting characters more than I do the main characters of the Faraday family and Chess. That's just wow. And to an extent, I think the writers know this - I mean the last episode, during the next to last act, we had a few snarky remarks from Faraday as he battled the tightrope, but then he was in essence sidelined while we watched Orwell track the guest of Dice. Also, the family scenes need a lot more oomph and purpose to move the story along rather than just an underscoring of the main theme of the week. Basically, any time I see the kid or wife on the screen, I immediately reach for my iphone to multitask. Which is sad, because as a family unit, the 3 are actually interesting in their interactions in flashbacks, but seriously, how much stalkery angst can we be expected to put up with week to week. Especially when combined with the continued touching of the family picture. Way to be uber confident in your ability to spot a tail, Faraday, because I so don't get why no one's figured out the connection yet as often as you visit. Also, your son is a tad soft in the head. :P
I'd much rather watch the Carnivale of Crime be utilized by Orwell to fight corporation-scale corruption a la the Justice League meets the A-Team. That would be fun show!
Ah well, at least White Collar is back. :) Last night's ep was pretty cute. Mozzie gets to keep the gem-making equipment!!!! Woohoo. Nice to see him actually get paid for his FBI consulting now post-gun shot.
