Sooo, for the canada folks out there. Going to Montreal for work next weekend and have managed it where I'll have friday afternoon/evening to myself.

Any advice on what I should do or go eat or any such?

Thanks.

The standard answer would be--if you're unafraid of meat or fat--a smoked meat sandwich/platter with fries and a Cott's Black Cherry at Schwartz's, on St. Laurent. Iconic greasy Jewish deli. If you find that too busy, The Main across the street does an acceptable version. Order the smoked meat medium fat for flavour, lean for personal survival.

As for what to do within an afternoon or evening? Um, well, there's a Pre-Raphaelite painter (Waterhouse) exhibit at the Musueum of Modern Art. Walking along Ste Catherine for the shopping. Going up to Mount Royal Park--it was designed by the man who did NYC's Central Park. Oh, and we have several establishments where scantily clad women will be happy to take your money in exchange for dancing in high heels in close proximity.

Can't really recommend any other touristy stuff like Old Montreal or the museums, since those tend to take up a fair bit of time.
