Liberia cracks down on "immoral dress" amongst students, which includes such evil things like hair weaves and "sagging skirts or trousers" that expose underwear. The intent? "to return to the "good old days" before the civil war of the 1990s." and "instilling moral discipline in our young people". Ummmm, seriously? There is just so much messed up with that. I think Liberia has a few more things to concern itself with than student dress and hair.
China enacting new laws to address gender imbalance. One thing never addressed in any of the articles on gender imbalance is one unintended consequence of it --- whenever a population of animals has more males than females, the number of subsequent births decreases given the limitations on access to fertile females. Just an aside I wanted to throw out there. I also hope that unintentionally this will result in the value of women increasing in countries with gender imbalances, but then again, that's my optimistic idealism sneaking out from under control of my realism again.
The future of Afghan Buddhas. As tragic as the loss of the ancient sculptures, again, I think there are many more important projects in Afghanistan to direct money to than this one --- like oh, infastructure needs like clean water, electricity, and universities.
Also, last night, I saw my first "Freedom Watch" commercial. And then I vomited in my mouth a little and had nightmares all night. I'm all for wounded veterans having their say and their opinions and admire their loyalty and patriotism. But it makes me sick to see them used in such a way. Google Freedom Watch and see if you don't agree. The chickenhawks bankrolling the ads should put their money where their mouths are and enlist their own damn selves.

I mean, how long does a war have to last?
Politics is such bullshit.
