It's only extinction - lighten up

We learned in Civics class that Congress holds the power of the purse. The real question is, is the Department of the Treasury a part of the unitary executive. (You know the one. The unitary executive the Cheney ain't a part of).

Go ahead and Smoke. It's for the children. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

More than you ever wanted to know about Bush's .... insides. I can't say it. I just can't. *grabs bottle of brain bleach*

And guess which former Grey's Anatomy star had another sit down with Billy Bush....

Well, someone in the Bush administration got a heart. Here's hoping he can teach the rest of the Bushies the meaning of the word "sympathy" and "empathy" and "every life means something even if it's not an embryo."

Did you hear anything about the attacks in early July that shut down power in Mexico to 1,200 businesses?

Death spurs Egypt's health ministry to ban female circumcision

Except, of course, for the fact that the health ministry can't make laws so the prohibition and promise of punishment is essentially meaningless unless Egypt's legislature passes a real law. Still...progress.

Halliburton can't even take care of Iraq's Black Gold properly.

(Nytimes, reg may be req. It's front page right now though).

One thing I dislike about this article -- they don't state anything about a timeline until the SECOND page of the article. It's very difficult to realize that the article is about ongoing willful oil pollution TODAY, although they do state that these policies were formed under Saddam as a way to store crude oil waste during the height of the international sanctions.

For those you who have been following the story, Kristof had encouraging news today. Mukhtaran Bibi has been freed finally from her "stay" with the Pakistani government and returned to her home village. While President Musharraf reports that she has been removed from the countries blacklist forbidding her travel, her passport was confiscated before she was freed.

And what does President Musharraf have to say about all this?
Mr. Musharraf admitted to reporters on Friday that he had ordered Ms. Mukhtaran placed on the blacklist. And although Pakistan had claimed that Ms. Mukhtaran had decided on her own not to go to the U.S. because her mother was sick (actually, she wasn't), the president in effect acknowledged that that was one more lie. "She was told not to go" to the U.S., Mr. Musharraf said, according to The Associated Press.

"I don't want to project a bad image of Pakistan." he explained.
