Whatever caused the migraine last night that carried through this morning can just go the heck away. Ugggh. I haven't felt that way in a long time - not since the last blood pressure headache from hell that woke me up a couple of years ago.

I saw the most amazing thing yesterday at work. I was getting on the elevator to go over to another building to pick up a reagent. As we were waiting (it was the 5 pm elevator rush, so the elevators were slow), I was joined by a woman and her child --- not entirely odd since some people do bring there kids to work, but the girl (probably early teens) was wearing a hospital face mask and incredibly thin - but she was fairly active. This is odd because while our lab is in the one of the Children's Hospital buidlings, our building is entirely research laboratories and no patients.

Then we were joined by someone from the executive offices who recognized them and commented on how much the nurses like it when they are "nominated" (probably for employee appreciation or something). The mom started going on about how much the nurse had helped her daughter and then revealed that the daughter had had a lung transplant THE WEEK BEFORE.

We were all floored because although the girl was WAY too thin, she didn't look sick at all and was obviously full of energy. It was just wow. Not to mention, knowing a few adults that have had open heart surgery, i couldn't believe she was moving around without any pain and all that. I think it's one of the most inspiring sites that I've ever seen and something that will probably stay with me for life.

Children have always amazed me with their ability to heal.

When my oldest daughter (the one in Texas with my ex) was 3 years old her stomach went up behind her lungs because her diaphragm was weak due to the marfans. This was the second time it had happen, when she was born it was like that at birth.
She'd lost a drastic amount of weight from it and though I complained to her PCP for ages about her not being able to eat and throwing up blood, I didn't get results until i went back to the surgeon who'd done her original surgery.
The doctor rushed her into Texas Children's to repair it, she was in surgery from 6:50am until 2pm. When she came out of surgery she was so tiny and sickly and they put her in the ICU.
The incision went completely across her stomach, literally from one side to the other, and we had all sorts of issues due to the GI tube they'd put in "just in case" even though she was supposed to eat by mouth getting infected.
It was about a week later that she sat up in bed and said, 'Im hungry' when she'd barely eaten since surgery, so we called the doc and he said she could have anything she wanted if she'd eat, and came in and took out the GI tube.
She wanted McDonald's (there was one in the hospital) So our friend Desmond and Maritza who'd been staying with me at the hospital and I went to go get a wheelchair for her and she told us, "no Ill work." Des said worse case he'd carry her if something happen.
She walked all the way down the hall, stood in the elevator, walked to the Micky D's, ate a huge meal and then ran around playing on the playground with the other patients like nothing had happen.
We took her home the next day.
Every since that time I have truly been amazed by how quickly a child can recover from things like that, when it takes some adults months to recover from simple things :)
