I read the article today w/ Tony Snow (guess he's back at work. Good for him) issued the attack on Kansas govenor Kathleen Sebelius. The relevant line went:
The link above has collected the quotes of many govenors and national guard leaders publicly saying that the national guard in most states is stretched too thin and that response to natural disasters will be compromised.
Of course, the problem is 1) we've cut the taxes that we would use to buy new equipment for all these Guards and 2) why worry about letting the National Guard do pesky cleanup when private contractors can do it and provide a boost in the arm to the economy? Or at least, that's the reasoning behind it for the compassionate conservative I imagine.
