I have no clue why I'm being so antisocial. I think I have the fandom blahs...those seem to be going around a lot this summer on my flist.

Went shopping w/ B yesterday and after an hour running around the mall, finally found some stuff that I'd actually pay money for. And gaaaah, fashion keeps getting worse and worse and worse. Most of the stuff for people my age I won't wear period. The businessy stuff is useless to me in a lab (too hot and then too expensive to worry about one of any number of chemicals bleaching or eating a hole). And then we get into the clothing patterns that I've seen my mom or grandmother wear. *shudders* Really, just nice, basic styles is ALL I ask for. Right now, it looks like the only places I can find those at are United Benneton, Brooks Brothers if I don't mind pastel colors (which I do), and J.Jill. Thankfully the JJill store was actually open in the mall so I could find some relatively inexpensive and NORMAL tshirts. Also, what is up with EVERY tshirt or blouse cut for women being a V-neck. I mean really. They don't do anything for those of us who are small chested and I'm actually just sick of looking at them period.

The United Benneton stuff was on sale so my bank account wasn't completely busted. Two nice polo shirts and two pairs of linen pants (that really really have to be hemmed. The british apparently think that everyone who buys their clothes is the height of Kate Moss. Passed up some stuff at JCrew and was ready to give up when I saw the JJill. Now, their stuff is a little soccer mommish, but siiigh, the colors are normal, the cuts are normal, and I just want to look like I'm not trying to dress like a teeny bopper or flash my belly at the world (really, fashion, get over women's belly's. And start making jeans that don't show our ass cracks more than a plumber's.). Got three shirts there--one expensive one that I don't know how to describe and two regular, plain tshirts made out of non-itchy cotton (Don't laugh--a lot of the stores and even hanes have started using a cotton or weave that causes me to claw my skin off. not fun, especially since cotton is supposed to be the one fabric that does not cause that. Don't tell me to use fabric sheets -- those will make my skin bleed with no help from me).

The finally successful shopping trip was followed by dinner at a restaurant that I had success with once before at the mall. Chinese, so it always makes me slightly nervous due to my issues w/ msg and all. The waiter was fabulous though since I basically said I HAD to have his help (we were seeing Pirates afterward and I didn't want to spend the entire movie in the theater bathroom). He took down my order and then he even brought the head chef out to me to tell me how they were modifying the dish and mention a few things I should never order. Only downside was the waiter then thought it was cute to constantly make corn jokes, but oh well. I had a chicken dish that was fabulous while at the same time being terrifying since it was SWEET. I have not had a sweet chinese dish since I figured out my problems since I figure any place will use corn syrup to make it. Apparently they didn't because I didn't get a headache, I didn't get itchy, my pain trigger in my shoulder didn't go off, and my tummy was happy (Yeah, I'd like to know some day why I can have a variety of reactions as well. Probably won't happen). B was happy to have a new restaurant and remarking how much closer the mall is to drive to than Delaware (where we generally go on weekends), so methinks we'll be back...a lot. ;) LOL. He liked it too "best egg rolls ever" he claimed.

Then we were off to the movie. Where we had to stand in line outside the ticket taking area because they apparently no longer do the stuff w/ the felt rope and you lining up by the theater*rolls eyes*. Then forty five minutes waiting for the movie and laughing at the idiot people who would come in and try to find 5-9 seats together for their friends who hadn't shown up yet. Note to self: never see a movie with more than a group of three unless all are present at that point in time.

Movie reactions: meeeeeh. I avoided spoilers. I tried to avoid critics reviews. But I got slammed by a few people who posted their squee or gripes about the movie w/out actually posting spoilers. I don't know how much those so-so reviews affected me or not, but I definitely didn't think it was as good as the first. The beginning was choppy -- could have been much smoother. The East Indian Trading Guy was stupid. I rather found the special effects of the Flying Dutchman's crew offputting...too much like D'argo but could tell it was a cartoonish animation -- definitely not as good as the ghosty guys the first time around. The whole father/son thing left me feeling flat. Loved Elizabeth's character this time. Missed the character of Anamaria--they got the rest of the cast back, why not her?

I have hopes that the next one will be better. We'll see. Definitely better than the other action movies out this summer though from what I've heard. Cars is still the best summer release though.

And then, to start my birthday off right, [livejournal.com profile] luridmuse made me this wonderful wallpaper *hugs her goddess*

Sometimes that happens during summer hiatus. I'll bet as the new season gets closer, you'll get more energetic again. :)

I don't like those ultra-low rise pants either. Even stick-thin people* look like they have love handles when wearing those. And you cannot, simply cannot avoid avoid showing off your buttcrack if you sit down or bend over even a little. Unfortunately, my generation only wears those jeans. I like slightly flared legs on my pants, but I go for a tad higher-rise jeans (jeans are pretty much everything I wear). I think they may actually be called "medium-rise." I'm not sure because I only go clothes shopping when I have absolutely no choice.

Funny, I found the second Pirates movie to be pretty good. At least, it was a metric ton better than I expected (but I have no faith in Disney sequels).

* including the American Eagle models I just saw the other day in an ad at the cinema

Fandom blahs is a good term for it. *sighs*
