Finally!! All the hardware is working. I was very upset this morning when I couldn't connect to my wireless for whatever reason --- kept getting "can't connect" even though everything appeared to be working. Paniced call to Dell before my 3 days expired and a lot of stuff I'd already done, guy finally had be uninstall that driver and restart and voila! It works.
Heeee!!!
*hugs computer*
now then folks, anyone know of a good software firewall that plays well with a modem firewall? I'm not positive that that was the problem, but I trust
luridmuse when she tells me that zonealarm doesn't play nicely and is a resource hog. Which would explain why it was so difficult to complete an asquared trojan scan there at the end.

Uhm, LavaSoft (the makers of AdAware SE) also have a firewall you may want to look into. Not sure if it plays nicely with pre-installed modem firewalls, but there are online reviews about it.
