Madeline waves the shotgun until both the skinny blonde cop and the dark-haired man in the leather jacket backed up. "That's right, keep going."
The man looks back. "Really, I'd rather not. Cages aren't my thing - well, except in strip clubs, but this so doesn't have that vibe." Maddy fired the gun to the left of his head and he shut up. "Okay, okay, going into the cage without perforations. That sounds like a plan too."
The blonde followed him, but tried to get a word in as well. "Listen, lady, I don't know -"
"That's right, you don't know. So get in the cage and stay there. Obviously Sam needs to practice more on his knot tying since both of you got loose in the first place. Now go all the way against the wall."
Both of the captives complied. "My name is Grace. Grace Anadarko. Whatever is going on here, you don't want to be a part of it ma'am. I'm a police officer."
Maddy snorted. "Of course you are. And I bet he's an FBI agent. Or maybe a misunderstood priest. I don't know what either of you did, or might do, but my son said it was best that you both stay put. And that's exactly what I intend to see happen." Maddie punctuated the statement by affixing the large padlock to the cage door. The look on the faces of the two prisoners made her get the shotgun at the ready quickly though.
"Did he just -" the blonde asked.
"Yeah, he did. It's a bad habit. Angel and all that," the man replied.
"Dean. Grace Anadarko. Earl told me to let you know that you can trust me," the man wearing the trenchcoat said. Maddie scanned the warehouse, but couldn't see where the man had entered.
"You know Earl?" "Who's Earl?" the captives asked simultaneously.
"Quiet!" Maddie ordered. She really needed a cigarette if she was going to deal with this. And a stiff drink. Now she knows why Sam always had so much alcohol available. "I have the gun, you're in the cage, so I'll ask the questions."
The new guy cocked his head at her in an odd way. "I'll take Grace and Dean with me. Please pass my gratitude to your son for looking out for their safety." Then he disappeared. When Maddie turned around, the locked cage was empty.
"Michael will never believe a word of this," Maddy complained.
