Or whatever they are called there. My mother managed to successfully get on the computer w/out me present, and get herself to facebook. She even completed filling out her profile without me explaining it. Given the difficult of explaining how to use a flash drive and that no, for the umpteenth time, she no longer needs to worry about updating her dialer or anything to do internet explorer 8 updates the dialup dialer had been worrying her about, this is a major accomplishment.
Of course, now I need to actually create the friends lists and remember to watch what I post on facebook....not that I ever actually posted anything too personal, but still.
We won't even get into the lecture I had to give on proper password hygiene now that she's on a connection that isn't slower than mud. Since she seemed overwhelmed by idea of switching browsers to firefox (even though she'd be just as familiar w/ it since she's gone from explorer 6 to explorer 9 overnight), I did bow to necessity and start a word document w/ passwords for her to prevent her from using the same city name as all her passwords and prevent the inevitable loss of the password sticky note. (or it being found by my brother. More on that later).
And in trying to figure out why I wasn't seeing any of my mother's posts, I see that facebook had instituted a subscription specification on how many posts one wants to see from any given friend. And the default is "most" though I don't know how they calculate that since they had yet to put a single post from her on my wall. Siiiigh. At least w/ LJ they offer an explanation of changes they make in the weekly/monthly status updates, but with facebook, you just have to roll w/ it and figure it out as you go. Which I was much more tolerant of before I had to face explaining it over the phone to my mother.
