Aug. 6th, 2007 07:32 pmOkie dokey....I think I may be able to deduct my cable bill from my taxes because DUDE, the internet at work is SLOW AS MOLASSES. And by that I mean like slow as dial up almost for a lot of sites (gmail, dailykos). Oddly, bbcnews loads really fast. No clue if it's mac/safari/or jersey, but jesus. *hugs cable internet*
So yeah, not only is my LJ pretty much cut off during the day, but checking either gmail account (real life or fandom) is pretty much nonexistent. Also, I tried yahoo mail and it didn't load any better either. I did get into gmail at certain points, so it's not blocked, but wow.
This concludes my first post after severe internet withdrawal.

Aug. 6th, 2007 10:53 pmTurkey concerned about the "Christian Embassy" Not that you know, many have been concerned about the grasp of the religious right on the military for a few years. But other countries are even noticing. Sadly, I fear that certain fundamentalists may view this as a "victory". I mean, evangelicals have never been concerned too much w/ doing their work cloak and dagger style (not for the most part, anyways).

Former NYC FEMA director slams Giuliani:
Huh, is it just me, or does that sound like anyone else beside Giuliani? Too bad none of his former employees spoke out about him. It gets worse though: Giuliani's daughter is supporting Obama!

You know what I find Freaky about the above? The whole "girls can be whatever they want" but "they better be a certain size". It's just setting girls and women up to fail -- First, by setting an impossible (and unhealthy) standard. And for the majority of those that achieve it, the effects generally only serve to dampen one's ability to succeed --- excessive calorie restriction (due to illness or purposeful diet) sets up one's brain for depression through lack of glucose, makes it more difficult to think, and results in lethargy --- resulting in girls who have no energy to exercise properly and can't learn well. I don't know why it struck me so hard as I read the article, but geez.

"Rudy would make a terrible president and that is why I am speaking now," Mr Hauer told The Sunday Telegraph. "He's a control freak who micro-manages decision, he has a confrontational character trait and picks fights just to score points. He is the last thing this country needs as president right now."

When Anne Ream, already stressed and overworked, picked up aThird-World virus and dropped a significant amount of weight and suddenly became a size 0, she found herself rather disturbed by the positive reception she got ...The original article also said the following: "We tell girls that they can be anything, while showing them — throug hairbrushed ads and glossy media images — that their first order ofbusiness is to be beautiful."
