Oct. 13th, 2006 10:57 amSiiigh. It's officially winter. Woke up this morning feeling CRAPPY for no reason. Sinus pressure combined with lovely feeling of being *this close* to a tension migraine accompanied by lovely lovely nausea. Breakfast and decongestant and coffee proved no help so I took an excedrin after a shower. Slowly started to feel like I could make it to work without movement causing me to be sick.
Right before I left for work, my nose finally opened enough for me to smell that wonderful "burnt dust" smell. You know the one I'm talking about. I thought it was my lamp, but I walked over to the heater anyway - sure enough, the heat is on. This suddenly explains my feeling like crap upon waking up thanks to the lovely forced heat/radiator system our building has. I HATE it, not in the least because it makes me feel like crap and invariably heats my place to 80+ degrees on the days it's actually cold outside (which granted, okay, frost warning for the night for the weekend -- but it's to get up to 60 every day. Old management wouldn't have turned it on. Haaaate condo, hate).
One of the biggest reasons I detest it is that I remember growing up with central heat and air so much. There was always that day that you finally turned on the heat aspect of it and the resulting tang in the air actually smelled good. It wasn't dusty since it used the same vents as the a/c, it was just, I don't know how to describe it. I love that smell. I miss getting to experience it. And the whole burnt dust crap is like a kick in the ass on top of it. Not to mention being ill for a couple weeks until my body acclimates to the too hot conditions and perpetual coating of dust spewing out.
Oh well, I suppose it's my buildings way of making sure that I WANT to go to work and that I want to stay AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. Which is good since I have three weeks till my meeting. Actually a tad less.
Another thing I hate about winter is having to go blind while walking outdoors. Once the wind and air dip into the 40s, my sinuses behind my ears enjoy making me endure blinding pain if metal touches them while they are cold in the least. This is also why I end up wearing a face mask as soon as we hit exactly 40 thanks to all my old sinus infections. Blech. I HATE winter. Or at least, I hate having to walk everywhere in the winter which is pretty much the same thing since the South/Midwest is the only place I know that you can live places and drive everywhere.
All is not lost though - I got to wear my lovely lovely lovely soft sweater that is made out of the new improved chenille like fabric (at least the sales lady claims it washes oh so much better, as in won't fall apart on the third wash.)
Hmm, head seems almost warmed up enough to get to put glasses on.
