Aug. 12th, 2006 11:28 pmLooooong day at work today -- unexpectedly long since I didn't think pushing things back a little would screw me up so much. But of course, I forgot to check the sign up sheet for the machine I needed and somehow someone snuch in yesterday and signed up immediately after my last time so I had to wait around tonight to run my plates. My own fault, but annoying all the same (really, is it so much to ask that people sign up a little earlier than the last minute?) Things were made more stressful by the fact that B was needing to use same type of machine -- he didn't think it would be a problem since they have one in his building, but when I went w/ him to show him how to set it up, we found that the wrong size plate was in it and the right size plate was no where to be found. So now I get to get up EARLY tomorrow in order to run over to work to put his plates on my machine (we'd already set up the experiments and they are only good for 24 hours after set up). Plus, helping him w/ the mouse work he has to do since the postdoc that usually helps him w/ this is off on paternity leave.
So yeah, we'll both be dead by noon tomorrow. We'll see how his plans to go out after we both clean up go.
The day was made a little less painful (though it is what ultimately pushed my day back) by my muse deigning to talk to me again. As much as I wish the frog had been talking all along on this story so I wouldn't have had to do THREE rewrites, I have to say it feels GOOD. Granted, each rewrite has been better than the first (even I admit the first was dren that made my early writing look almost positively fantabulous), but I want this story out and done already. Plus, this isn't my process. I liked the old process of waiting for words and not having to work so gorram hard at it. Inspired writing is definitely more fun.
Okay, off to shower and then to bed. And hopefully I won't dream about swarms of tornadoes hitting philadelphia tonight like I did last night. The worst part was that I was dragging B all around the city looking for a safe place to take shelter but discarding everything because of fact that everything was either all glass or the ground floors would mean being buried by 6-8 stories of concrete. Needless to say, not very restful.
( Oh, and a little aside --- )
