Economic impact of immigrants
May. 2nd, 2006 08:50 amFacing South reports on the breadth of industries forced to shut down during May Day protests
This is the point that I was trying to make yesterday in various places --- being an immigrant, legal or illegally, does not make one a criminal necessarily in regards to anything other than immigration law.
Additionally, the welfare rolls are abused by citizens and non-citizens alike. It would be interesting to see a race breakdown of the perpetrators of identity theft and welfare fraud, but it's pointless to this debate. The protests were about the contributions that migrants make to our social and economic fabric.

Drain odor update
May. 2nd, 2006 09:30 amGaaah, how boring is that. But I bitched and whined about it.
Deadbolt was locked when I came home yesterday, so maintenance people did come though they didn't leave a note or anything. *rolls eyes* Odor is gone, but I can't tell what they did...smells almost like they poured a bottle of febreze or fabric softener down my drain.
Oh well, I hope it sticks.

Huh....this is different...
May. 2nd, 2006 06:32 pmThough it might have been nice if it showed up sooner. In the mail today, I got something from the "Television Preview" --- four tickets for saturday night to an event that will show an unknown number of half-hour television show previews (including commercials ). If I'd had time to invite fangirls or something, I might be tempted, but as it is, I don't think I'm in the mood to see half-hour snippets of shows and commercials (if it was w/out commercials, I might consider it). Guess I'll mention it to B, but I don't see it happening.

May. 2nd, 2006 11:28 pmGilmore girls was okay tonight. A bit better than it's been, but I'm disliking the overall setup w/ there not really being an A story that gets resolved while B story drags on through several episodes etc. Too many episodes w/ no resolutions, just more building.
Veronica Mars on the other hand, kicked ass. As usual, this proves how I'm not cut out to watch mysteries, because I'm more entertained by the final resolution episodes than all the others combined.
