Okay, I have to do this because way too many of the reviews I've been reading have been negative w/out merit. I realize that no one in the review industry likes or cares for Keanu Reeves, but that is no reason to bust on a legitamately good movie. If you want to read a detailed review that actually understands the movie, ign.com had one last week.

Now then, granted, I never read the comics. Brian did and he said the set up and everything was pretty true to form for him. He hasn't read them in a while, so maybe all the characters are actually canon, but he couldn't recall two -- the woman cop and the cabdriver.

Regardless of that, if you have half a brain to pay attention during the exposition scenes where they explain the universe, you'll like the movie. And if you don't, you'll be confused as hell like the NYTimes reviewer who couldn't understand why Neo was in hell. Seriously, the guy was that frelling stupid.

Now then, Keanu's acting abilities aside, he fits the character and pretty soon you aren't seeing him as Keanu but as Constantine. So put your hate aside for an afternoon and go see the movie. The CGI is spectacular but not overdone in the least...the company and director did a perfect job of making sure that it blends well and isn't...oh shall we say, needless (calling George Lucas. This is how you use CGI effectively). The dialogue is good and acerbic in places. And OMG...the camera angles. Seriously, this guy and Joss went to the same film school or were influences by the same directors. The camera use and how the film was cut together was beautiful. That was the only time I got pulled out of the story was when I would see a scene and be blown away by a) the symbolism and b) the way it was cut to specifically remind you of earlier scenes.

Seriously, if you liked the story of Stigmata, go see this movie. It is Stigmata's comic-influences, action movie younger sibling. No, story line is not the same, but they have the same take on religious matters.

Really, this is one of the better action movies I've seen in a while (and seeing as the last good action movie I saw was The Incredibles, well you begin to understand my hate for the film industry. Okay, yes I loved the Punisher, but Constantine blows Punisher out of the water just on technical knowhow.)

Go forth and watch this movie. Cause otherwise I think Brian will go all Punisher on the movie critics that hurt this film's gross.

Well, surprise surprise, I'm procrastinating. Found some fic when I was looking at flists of friends and found this gem. It's sp-awn so stay away if it triggers ick for you. Spike/Dawn has actually been on of my few ships I've actually acknowledged having just cause their relationship was so anti-early spike and found it intriguing. [livejournal.com profile] theohara takes it and explores it very well. You can find the chapters of her WIP Two Summers here It's already lengthy so don't let the WIP part scare you away.

*sigh* always so nice to find a good long piece of fic to procrastinate w/:) Bad, but nice.
