Look, in case anyone needs warning away from it, Skip VWars on Netflix. I watched an hour and a half of it last night, and I wish i had the time back even despite the nice shower shots of Ian Somerhalder's back and chest.
Reasons: first and foremost, with no spoilers, in a town/city, they show exactly 3 people of color. And about 4 women. 3 of whom fall into the sex obsessed, not entirely smart stereotype.
Details with spoilers:
1) Ian's character is a doctor. a research doctor. which they remind you in about every other scene
2) His wife, while constantly initiating sex, is also used as the stand in to ask questions about science, because of course, a doctor would only marry someone as a trophy wife
3) oh, we find out in beginning of second episode that the trophy wife is his second wife. and the first wife, who we have yet to meet, is mentally unstable enough that her son doesn't want to be put into her custody.
4) The other main woman we meet, a web blogger with no morals, is also sex obsessed. and also the only woman of color we see for the first episode.
5) Oh, the only man of color we see - yeah, he turns into the uncontrollable vamipire monster. and then we see lots and lots of scenes of him killing women becuase he can't control himself (and for a long time only women, even though he's locked in a room at one point with his best friend who is a man after he's started killing. guess we gotta get that no homo moment in), and lots of scenes of white doctors and police trying to catch him
6) omg the science hurts. My pet peeve being they constantly mispronounce prions. badly. continuously. ugh.
