Ummm...so I'd already seen the opening between Maddy and Michael. And who knew that was actually going to be the best character part of the episode? Reminder to self - watching clips ahead always results in disappointment.

Okay, onward and upward. I'm looking forward to having the entire season in my hands because I'm not quite sure if they earned Jesse being quite so cutthroat as blowing up Fi's house....I mean, I thought it wasn't that long ago that he had a hard time working over a psycho assassin? Maybe my memories wrong. And maybe I'm just a little sad that we got so little Jesse play. Still, had to keep reminding myself that we were actually only 3 days from Michael getting shot, and so what, 2 weeks from Jesse finding everything out? I guess his whole stiff thing was in character then.

Still, there was a lot in the writing and the directing of this episode that I didn't care for. A bit too little build and a lot too much of "cut - next action scene". Psycho bomber was a little to black and white. Clients were a little too little screen time - I mean, I suppose the sister knew about her brother's extracurricular activity? Felt like there needed to be more there.

And then the final scene between Maddy and Mike? I can't quite decide if it was out of character or not. I mean, to say the only reason he keeps going after his burn notice is liking having his finger on the trigger? What? And then Maddie just being "whatever" to the way he said it? Though okay, bravo to nods to his childhood screwing him up, but still? I hope they'll pay this off later and it's just a case of Mike not wanting to explain his true motivations, because, while I could see that and his childhood motivating him down this path, I see his pursuit of it as much more a matter of "I know I'm one of the best at what I do, and not wanting to settle for less".

Especially given that it's his burn notice that prevents him from entering any potential job that would make use of his skill set - doubtful he'd be hirable by police or federal law enforcement, and that leaves exactly what to make use of his skill sets? Security consultant would likely need to travel outside of Miami. He could set up a true PI branch, but again, he'd likely just be the head of it because of his lack of ability to travel. So what does he have? Turn his back on his skills and try to fit into a regular 9-5 job? And his other option is to truly forge a new identity and go off with Fi to places where he hopefully wouldn't be recognized...

So yeah, that entire last scene with Maddie really bothered me. But maybe it was more a matter of bad writing.

I'm still trying to decide if they were trying to give Jesse a big I AM A MAN moment with blowing up Fi's house or if they were just trying to make him more interesting/cool/sympathetic. My sympathy's with Fi, there, sorry :p
