There is a nasal quality to an upper Midwest accent that drives me absolutely insane. The vowels are all long and drawn out in a very nasally whine that makes my hands form fists involuntarily. I'm one of those people who will pick up the accent of an area I'm in if I'm there long enough, so I try to be very mindful of not talking like Lily Tomlin's Josephine.
