Okay, my mood is going to turn around today by sheer force of will. It is. *kicks mood*
I already said it, I didn't like last night's episode. It was too predictable -- I saw it coming at the end of last season but had crossed my fingers. I don't want this season to go the way of second season House. I don't. This is why I like Joss, Tim Minear, and David Mamet --- somehow, they manage to put my preconceptions on their head. That doesn't happen often in TV.
So let's go through them one by one, shall we?
1.) Dean's OBE -- I mentioned this as a possibility when someone wailed about the fact that the boys weren't hurt more. Which they still weren't once everyone was walking and talking, but I think that speaks more to the fact that the show has to decide between money for special effects versus makeup. I mean come on, weren't you waiting for Dean's body to pass through an object just once like Spike did? Sorry, they couldn't do that because the Demon's eyes turned yellow too often.
2.) The girl being the Reaper -- okay, that one actually did surprise me. I figured the Reaper thing was going to be more like that child breath stealer thing. I did like the conversation between the Reaper and Dean and how at the end, she'd actually convinced him it was his time. One out of...oh hell, I don't know yet. But i guess it means the episode wasn't a total waste.
While I'm at it, the ouija board was good too -- though really, couldn't Dean have spelled out a wise crack or two? I mean, Sam just took it too easily that the spirit he was talking to was Dean. *shakes head*
3.) John summoning the demon and making a deal. Where to start? The deal was painfully obvious, the colt and his life. Also, stupid stupid stupid. I actually would have preferred for John to remain blindly obsessed and not given up the gun. On the other hand, being selfish enough to sacrifice himself and leave both boys with that guilt was horribly in character. But really, wasn't there anything at all more original to do with this scene? This was the point at which I stopped enjoying the episode...hopefully it wasn't the point at which I stopped enjoying the show.
Also, if John could "summon" the demon, why didn't we do that at some point before?? Huh? I can think of a half dozen explanations, but Kripke didn't give us one so shame on him.
4.) John knows about "Sam". We don't know what yet, but so far I'm having a good record with predictions. Odds on choice is that either John isn't Sam's father, or something possessed John or Mary during Sam's conception. Another high up is that Sam is a switched baby in the tradition of changelings and such. Either way it annoys me because it belittles everything they built up with Dean and Sam being brothers IMO.
Then again, maybe my bad mood just ruined me for watching it this week. *shrugs* Ignore me, this is why I'm staying off everyone else's reaction threads/convos.
Like I said, I'm going to attempt to come out of this mood by force of will. Last night was not helped by receiving the itinerary for the grad group retreat at the end of November. Shorter than last year is the only bonus. So much else wrong with it that I'm all pissed off at myself again that I'm here and having to stick around for another one. And all else school related that I'm trying to just IGNORE and it's just eating away at me inside. So I might as well do it and get it done already.
