Soo...I realized I didn't really do much posting this weekend other than meme's and community info stuff. Not really all that much has changed since last week though. Weekend was rather boring and filled with one dvd of Deadwood and finishing up Feast of Crows.
Umm, I don't remember which disc, I think disc four of S1. Anyways, the series has picked up quite a bit since the few blah episodes post-Hickok death. The owner of the new brothel is turning out to be as much of an SOB as that of the Gem.
And this probably won't be that useful to continue considering I can't remember any names at the moment beyond Trixie and Mrs. Garrett. Needless to say, I'm hooked, and it will take a lot for this series to make me quit it. Course, as I found out with Nip/Tuck, that is actually possible.
Ummmm...Okay, is it me, or am I the only one who thinks that Martin could have wrapped this story up a bit faster. As it is, even with the companion novel yet to be released to this one, it really appears that one-two more books will be necessary to complete the series. Especially given the HUGE amount of pages necessary to refresh everyone's memories.
Cat and Alayne were two of my favorites from this book though followed by Jaime. Those characters remained fresh and continue to develop. And I'm beyond mad that we have to wait an interminable time to find out what Jaime does about Cersei being held by the new septon. Cause really, he's going to be just as much risk as her considering the rumors swirling around those two. And it's not going to be a very satisfying finish to the book if he dies hooked to the ceiling like the kettleback.
Also, the Septon storyline is so predictable. I don't even know what possessed Cersei to allow them to have miltant branches again, regardless of needing Tommen blessed or not. Mostly, this was lacking a conflicting POV with us seeing something/anything from the POV of a sparrow. That was actually the weakness of the book -- always before we saw differing POV from the different sides, but not this time. It was almost all Lannister and next to know confrontation between Lannister and their enemies. Disappointing and not near enough conflict.
I also don't know what to think of the ending to the Brienne storyline. I expect she'll be brought back to life though. Question is, what are these things --- lawful wights? What?
It would have been nice to see something from the Tyrells too. Though me thinks Margery's not done for yet.
That's about it. I was actually pretty disappointed w/ the book despite how well I did like what was good about it. Really a poor shadow to the first three and I think this could all have been done more concise to make it a stronger story. It's just languishing at the length it is or something. But it's lost the magic of the first two.
