I swear, it was just two years ago when I vaunted my sleeping ability and the rarity with which I had any issues with it.

Be it age and/or the influence of the pandemic that has definitely made an idiot out of that for that statement.

Last summer I had constant fatigue - likely from stress, possibly from asymptomatic COVID given my Feb/March travels to Boston but i saw no reason to be tested -- that had me constantly ready for a nap if given the opportunity to be somewhat horizontal. Again, figured this was mostly stress and inactivity given that it was not to the level of past experiences with mono (where being horizontal would not be a requirement for sleep). But it did start the cycle of where if those naps got REM too deeply, good sleep at night was a fool's dream. Which of course did nothing to help with building stress and crankiness and formed a vicious cycle that I slowly managed to break towards the end of summer (likely finishing house purchase and move helped).

Now this year, it's back at it, and I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to admit it is likely also the start of perimenopause. Because now I'm having more frequent nights of insomnia beyond the 1-2 pms nights. And of course when I do have them, i still get a significant fatigue spell at some point between 3 to 7pm. and if i give in, it feels good to hit that 1 REM cycle in the nap, but it definitely spells doom for night of sleep.

And exercise doesn't necessarily help, or at least not the cardio i typically do on my own.

Oh well, this is just me complaining after 40+years of easy sleep, with my only issue being the rare night terror that would have me levitating off the bed when i first slept in a new home. (fortunately not every new place, just on moves). When I know it's likley to be bad and I know i need the sleep, half a benadryl dose does still send me off to lala land, so nothing majorly wrong. Just annoying age.
