Escape from Midwest-traz
Dec. 29th, 2015 11:10 pmSo, it has been a long time since i last posted. Nothing much Has changed
We did get 2 weeks free and clear off from work for holidays,so i decided to drive to OK from NJ. Also the weather seemed to cooperate. Ha ha.
Spent weekend with friends in DC and then left Monday. Monday (21) night had torrential rains in TN until i finally stopped for night. But considering they had tornadoes on Wed, it could have been much worse.
Then lovely weather all week until Saturday. That was a fund night of tornado warnings :p. Rain continued Sunday with the substitution of 40 mile an hour straight winds for the tornado warnings. By Monday morning the Tahlequah area where my parents house is had gotten right around 12 inches of rain.
Started driving out Monday just before noon after getting windshield wipers replaced. The rain only stopped when it changed to snow or sleet :p I was less than impressed with the state of road closure notifications in MO as the lack of an AM station to tune to as I am accustomed to in most places was annoying and MoDot didn't have a searchable webpage that I could find.
I honestly never thought I'd have to deal with both I44 and i70 having closures. It took me 8 hours to escape "Missor-ry". In equivalent time, I was able to drive across IL, IN, and OH and make it to Pittsburgh.
Good luck to anyone traveling over the next week. It is not going to get any better until the rivers finish cresting. Stay safe out there--- still 3 more days till this miserable year ends
