I feel very sympathetic to Derek today. Metal sucks. Especially metal that is way too smart for its own good.

Remember my November engine light? the one that accompanied no obvious malfunction so i assumed the sensor had been bumped during oil change and no biggee, right? Or at least no biggee if I'd been in my 1994 jeep where engine lights were either there to laugh at you or tell you your car would explode...one or the other. And in my experience, always laugh at you because it meant nothing ever never ever and it was impossible to change the oil without screwing up a sensor.

Not so on the new intelligent metal my friends. On Monday my car started doing this fun thing of not wanting to accelerate between 20 and 40 mph -- oh, the rpms would shoot up as I put more and more pressure on the gas, but it would take 5 or 10 seconds for my car to actually go from 20 to 40....which is not good in NJ my friend. Even in town driving, drivers don't like to be held up like that. Then add in some fun snow where acceleration is more of an issue and well, you get the picture.

Roads were finally clear enough today to take my car to the garage. Where I was told taht even though I didn't have the blinky light of engine doom, just the solid light of "emissions are wonky but your car won't fall apart", that as soon as it comes on, the computer stops checking for other problems. Which is why I now had issues..oh and Midas wasn't comfortable doing anything because so many things were coming up that they were worried it was just an overall computer brain malfunction.

So now it's off to the Nissan dealer, who thinks they may just have to zero it out and give it back to me to drive until it comes back on again. *face palm* Of course, this was after it took 10 minutes to get my VIN to actually match to my model of car.

Cross your fingers for me that this is a cheap cheap problem. Between this and the 2006 tax bill last month, it's looking less and less like I'll actually get to take a fun vacation this year. :(:(:(
