Random Writing Thoughts
No, No, I'm not going back on what I said I was going to do. But I was watching some of
lithium_doll's farscape vids as I tore up way too many pieces of billing info and was struck with what I'm sure is not a unique thought.
But I'm going to spam your flist with it anyway.
In a way, I'm almost happy that Firefly ended when it did (please hold flames till the end). It's just from the standpoint of a writer, things were left in such a way that it begged people to fill in the blanks, do characterization stories, and just basically drug every hibernating or nascent muse kicking and screaming into reality. At least that is what it did for me. I fear that if the series had continued into spring etc, that things would have become much better defined etc. Granted, Joss doesn't always do that. In the past, he's left entire countries of backstory and ideas to be explored. But I'm not sure that Firefly, in it's focus on mortals, would have necessarily have gotten the same treatment.
Because with Farscape, my muse is terrified of it. The entire series fits together so continuously and tightly, that's it's hard to find an idea or a plot that wasn't completely and fully developed. There are potentials there, but it just seems so solid and even after rewatching episodes and such, they seem so complete. Heck, even trying to insert in stories/days seems hard because especially in anything past season one, you have to know your timeline so frigging intricately for it to be believable and fit. Granted, AUs and such work nicely, but still.
I dunno, just me thinking out loud as my muse keeps bashing and I keep protesting that it's wanting me to deal w/ 14 frigging characters. Think I may have found a way around it, but I anticipate needing to rewatch a lot of episodes....and while not a pain, well, it's just soo much harder when there are so many episodes instead of the what, 12 we got w/ firefly.
*sigh* Back to the monotony of my planned day.

Ah, but that's the thing. While the plots were developed, they left the door wide open for so many avenues to explore. Either to explore them more deeply with fillers and additions, or to take them onto a different road altogether. I love AUs for that. It lets you define the characters within your own mind, see if what makes them tick will continue along that new avenue. Or think on how a varied situation will change their evolution from the characters we already know.
By the way, I love that icon. Is it available for sharing cause it totally cracks me up. *g*

And I totally agree w/ you on the AU part...I don't know..I'm just very fearful of dabbling in Farscape --- I think part of it is that I'm so new to the show (still haven't even finished watching all of it a second time yet) and that there is such talent in the fandom (granted, I've run across some dren as well). And I'm still so new to the whole fanfic writing as well that I've been taking baby steps. Finally gotten to the point where I'm comfortable doing AUs in Firefly, but in another medium where I don't feel I have a grip on the characters yet, very scary.
We'll see what happens. Trying to get this xover bunny to sit still and cooperate but muse is still gasping at the 14 character issue so I'm mulling moving it around in the time frame some. And sadly, every vignette that I think of to do when I'm watching the show is always based on the peripheral characters. *threatens the princess katralla bunnies*

In fact, I had only discovered... Actually, I should say I had finally decided to check out a story to see what fanfic really was. Which just happened to be One Eye's URPK. After that I was looking for anything I could find to read.
So it shouldn't matter that you've only seen the complete series once. If you have a good idea, write it! If you don't have a beta that is familiar with Farscape, there are plenty here on LJ that would be glad to help you out. Me included. Although I'm not going to lie about it I'm only good on continuity, grammar I seriously suck at. So god bless betas. *giggle*
Oookay. I just realized I'm babbling like a loon here. Sorry about that. *g* And thank you for asking about the icon.

As soon as the good idea hits me, I will probably finally type it. Problem is I'm very much a "scene bursts in" and carries me away type of person. If the scene doesn't appear in my head, it's very hard for me to develop a story just based on "what if". *scratches head* And I blame farscape entirely because between the writing and the directing and the acting and the yummy Benny, my brain is on overload when I watch.
except for I, ET...I hate that episode w/ every fiber of my being for some reason.

You and me both. *snicker* For me it's because it's too formula. Both I, ET and Jeremiah Crichton. Also the dead weasel attached to John's face in that one.

But yeah, I ET waaay too formulaic, bad acting on the part of the guests, not that great of acting on everyone else's part since it was so early. And just *shudder*
