Woops, been a minute

Since I avoid using work computer for DW, and I prefer to type, I'm doing this a lot less than I intend as I put the PC away and then don't pull it out and charge it like I do with iPad. So few updates missed.

I did get down to DC area to spend it with my college friend and her family. Was a very fun time that involved their standard (now) 2 dogs plus 1 slightly crazed temporary foster dog, a trip to dave's and buster's with her kid (my first - thankfully it was pretty empty thanks to being just at the beginning of everyone's vaccinations so no issues with corn in the air), and an actual day out for just the 2 of us with brunch and dinner and drinks. So a very nice break from home, welcome interaction with my chosen family, and right before Delta did the explosion that made any further travel this year unlikely

Sigh. Dad is solidly down the OAN 45 won hole. After 2 large fights about the vaccine, I couldn't deal any more and did not call home for over a month -- in that time for some reason he and the stepmom did finally get vaccinated. But you know not because the daughter he paid to send through school who has a PhD in immunology said it was a good idea. ***arrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh*** I can't even with him

Overall good. 1 cold that was an actual cold at end of july that was fun. PT helped my knee pain immensely and all of that has been mostly laid at the feet of my leg muscles are all waaaaayyyyyy too tight. So now I have medically necessary massages.

I may have also inadvertently figured out what exacerbated my natural tendency toward tenseness to the pathologic side.

So, lactose intolerant right? No big deal for past 20 or so years as I've had various lactose digestant supplements. Back when corn allergy became a bigger thing, i'd switched to GNC version that had very very few ingredients and it worked great for me. Well, pandemic supply disruptions and they stopped making it last fall and sometime early this year I ran out of the last I'd stockpiled.

I did start trying to find a different one, and I have 2 that I can take though I can't take daily (or multiple times daily) like the GNC without it still pushing my GI into supreme not happiness.

As a result, I've cut back on dairy massively. 1 cup of milk a day in my oats and that's pretty much it. And I didn't think too much about it since I grew up without it and never really took calcium supplements much and was fine, right? Figured I was getting probably more than enough. But also was not factoring in that I don't eat as much fortified foods either.

Anyways, long story short, the past 2 months I've been having pretty frequent lower body muscle cramps, but if I doubled on magnesium my GI was angry and potassium wasn't doing anything. And I've been having insomnia for a bit longer than that. After a random "let's have a cup of hot chocolate" coincided with the 1 day I wasn't taking excedrin for muscle pain, I dived down the google hole and yeah, Calcium deficiency (especially if in imbalance with magnesium) can cause muscle cramps.

Experiments with 3 suppl3ments to find the one that didn't upset GI or make me itchy means that for the last 4 days my muscles have not cramped and I've slept better than I have since March.

This has been fine-ish. Shortly after my birthday, our busy season started up again and I had a pretty hellacious august, but that calmed back down...and pointed out some pretty big coaching needs for a couple of my team. My boss has been promoted from CMO to COO of the company but doesn't indicate he's bringing in anyone to replace him. The guy he recruited that they brought in as an SVP (so technically higher than me) has an interesting approach/perspective that hasn't meshed well with actually managing a team effectively. Which has set up an interesting dichotomy where I keep looking around going "really, i'm good at managing? who would have thunk?" So it's looking like boss is likely to divide up his responsibilities between me and the SVP to some extent.

Wheee. Came through hurricane henry fine (i was in DC but everything looked fine when I got back).
Ida - yeah, my sump pump had apparently died after henry and I didn't realize it. It was shorting out the breaker that I didn't realize it was on because the breaker box didn't have that on the label and so my basement got about 2 inches of water across all of it. Fortunately I didn't have much stored directly on the floor and was able to get it dried out.

So 3 weeks and 3 plumbers, and I finally got that replaced. Yay!

Have not been able to get a handy man out for anything. Oh well.
