So the first half to 3/4 of the first book (Leviathan Wakes) is the first season of Expanse.
Depending on how they play out the season, we should probably have the end of the first book by midseason. And then this is complicated by the fact that they are smashing some of plots from second book into this second season, but I think a lot of that is due to budgetary constraints on sets etc (they can't very well have the entire crew sitting around Tycho for an entire week).
That said, it is very interesting to know how in detail the authors went in the book on giving us the internal landscape in the series, and then see how the show interprets it.
so yeah, you might just want to wait till the end of the second season to read book 1 if you really don't want to be spoiled.
