thoughts.

Was watching the latest episode of dexter last night, and something that's been niggling at me for a while finally popped in. In most of s1, and even some of s3, the "ghost" of dexter's father played the role of conscience and safety in order to get dexter to follow the code and stay safe.

More and more this season, Dad's not doing that anymore. Instead, he's pointing out all the ways the family get in the way of Dexter's dark passenger.

I'd really like to go back and see some of season 1 to also make a comparison about what Dad wore then vs the clothes he's in now. Because more and more, I feel like Dad has become the dark passenger.

I think they mentioned something about this in the extras via Showtime that they've changed the 'direction' of his father's figure in recent seasons. They started in Season 3 - his father is appearing to him as he would look if he were still alive rather than as the man that raised him.

I too think Dad has become the Dark Passenger. Dexter could, theoretically, be 'normal' if his dad wasn't there to egg him on.
