success

Managed to find somewhere to eat -- The Amish Market. Lots of electricity despite the name;) LOL. But most of the stuff was organic and fresh so I felt like it was safer than other stuff I was seeing in the financial district. Stomach is a little rumbly, but I think that might be more due to the excedrin than anything. But I do have two painful places inside my mouth, so it's possible I got something. But no migraine despite the rain, so whatever it was, wasn't too bad.

And i did go to see Serenity again --- did my part;) LOL. *crosses fingers* There were only 8 people in the theater, but then again, this was 2 pm in New York in the middle of the financial district. The movie is also playing a lot of theaters here in New York. Hmm...maybe I should look around to see if it's showing anywhere in Philly proper and go next weekend too. I haven't spent much during my trip here, so if finances allow, might as well;)

And it rocked, again. Not a single part of it that I dislike in all honesty. And I bought the Serenity Visual Companion. I almost bought the novelization, but when i saw that a) the novelization doesn't translate the chinese and the companion does and b) the writing was bad (IMO), I stuck to just the companion. And the novelization may be good for just such a thing -- I've read very few novelizations in my life and the only ones I've liked are those that actually go into the head of a POV character. I have the impression that the serenity novelization is completely 3rd person. And um... too many synonyms for the word "said". ;) I still think the thing between mal and simon was well handled. While simon and river had gained more acceptance by the end of the series, I think that to any extent, there was always a little friction between mal and simon despite the part of the whole "what part of part of the crew don't you understand?". Mal knows that simon's only priority is River and that's a problem for him in more than one way. Their confrontation in the beginning of the movie illustrates that.

I'm also not sure what everyone who has complained about lack of characterization was going on about. I thought it still had Joss's subtle touch with the characters despite focusing on Mal and River the most. But that's my opinion.

I also still stand by what I've said about Wash's death (despite how it pains me. Alan is soo damn pretty). In fact, I think that is the biggest thing you could argue in being the difference between the Worlds of Serenity versus the 3 original Star Wars movies. Despite both universes being gritty, in Star Wars, all of the core group survives all three movies mostly unscathed. Not so in Serenity. Big damn heroics often results in big damn heroic deaths.

And I didn't take the subway. Sounds like a good thing - I overheard some people talking about it and said that it had been shut down for a short time during rush hour.

And as a random ass statement -- I can officially say I've seen the sight of the Twin Towers now.
