*deeep breath*

OM frelling lord. that was fucking scary.

I think I only just now stopped hyperventilating. Which I guess after 5 yrs of depending on elevators a hell of a lot, I shouldn't be surprised...but god, please, elevator gods, don't ever ever ever do that to me again. And I'll do anything you ask to keep anything worse from happening.

Got on the elevator to go down to sauna basement to change my clothes into the dryers. When the doors closed, the elevator jumped and made a noise like a chain coming loose. That scared me bad enough. Then it went fine for about five floors...before repeating the maneuver and stopping dead....and then dropping a bit more w/ a lot more noise before the doors opened on floor five, but the alignment was off---had to step up about a foot and a half to get off. But you can bet I did that quickly!!!

Told the doorman about it...he doesn't seem too concerned. He didn't rush to put up a sign and acted like it was something he'd heard about previously. *rolls eyes* You can bet I'll be taking the non basement elevators and then the stairs down to the sauna basement to finish my laundry.

*goes to lay down till I stop shaking*

Wow! Got the wigguns just reading about it. I'm a claustrophobe, so I'm not REAL fond of elevators anyway, and I'm always convinced they're going to stop on me. Glad you're all right, hon.

aww babe. i once watched a mythbusters eppi and they claimed that the brakes should hold ya if things fail, but its still not comforting when these things mess up on a body. the elevator goes down all the time in the bldg where my office is at, thankfully we're at ground level but all those people who get stuck in that thing constantly cause the management is too cheap to overhaul it or replace it. though had an experiance like that once at target, friend and i's eyes both got wide, he wouldn't get on that lift either, not that i can blame him. its a scary thing even at a measly 2 stories. i imagine your building is taller then that though, hopefully your not too high where taking the stairs is an option.

*hugs*

Whoa, glad you're safe.

That used to happy frequently at my college dorm elevator, but only when there were a lot of people on. They never did anything permanent about it.
