The only thing Astrid was thinking when she turned the key in the lock was how wonderful a long hot shower was going to feel. She’d managed to dodge most of the slime explosion, but ghostly liquid still felt like it was running down her back. She always had hated how long imaginarywebs would adhere when she ran into a spider web, but eight hours later, her mind was taking phantom sensations to a whole new level.

So the sight of Zoe Washburne and Neal Caffery seated at her kitchen table with their heads bent over tattered architectural designs – so not the restful evening she was looking for. (Someday, she was going to prove that Charlie had cheated at the rock, paper, scissors tournament that determined the living arrangements of these two particular rift refugees. He claimed to have it worse, but she doubted it very much so).

Her dread ratcheted up a notch when Zoe failed to notice her entrance until the front door clicked shut. As soon as the other woman’s posture stiffened, Neal looked up with a radiant smile. A smile not unlike Peter’s when he decided to exercise his conman skills. There was absolutely no way that Astrid believed Neal’s story that he was an FBI agent in his universe. Unless the other universe was even more skewed than Faux-Livia’s.

Neal’s smile dimmed as he registered what must be a lovely shade of neon in her hair. Perhaps she’d underestimated exactly how much she’d been slimed. “Bad day at the office?”

“I’m having a shower. And music. And if I catch wind of anything that seems like illegal activity involving the two of you in the next week, I’ll be sure to suggest some very extensive tests to Nina,” Astrid threatened. She didn’t even attempt to make heads or tails of what was on the kitchen table. Don’t ask, don’t tell, and don’t get caught had become the code between her and her “roommates”. And it seemed to work as long as both were there to pitch in to save the world when it got really bad. So far, it seemed to be working.

She just wasn’t holding her breath about how long this particular truce would last.
